Danny Masterson Found Guilty of Rape

The “That ’70s Show” star was convicted on two counts of rape, with a third count resulting in a mistrial.

Danny Masterson, the actor best known for his role in That ’70s Show, was found guilty on two of three rape charges on Wednesday during his retrial in Los Angeles. The jury, consisting of seven women and five men, deliberated for over a week but could not reach a verdict on the third charge, which accused Masterson of raping a former girlfriend. Masterson, 47, was immediately taken into custody, and his sentencing is scheduled for August 4, with the actor facing up to 30 years in prison.

The conviction comes after Masterson’s first trial in 2022 ended in a mistrial, as jurors were leaning toward acquittal. In both trials, Masterson was charged with raping three women — known at trial as Jane Doe #1, Jane Doe #2, and Jane Doe #3 — between 2001 and 2003 at his Hollywood Hills home. All three women were former members of the Church of Scientology, to which Masterson still belongs.

After the verdict, Jane Doe #2 expressed a mix of relief and sadness, acknowledging that while Masterson’s conviction was a step toward justice, she was disappointed that he was not convicted on all counts. She also stated that she would pursue further justice through civil court. Jane Doe #3, who was not convicted on the third count, voiced her devastation over the result and reaffirmed her determination to hold Masterson accountable, particularly focusing on the role of the Church of Scientology in covering up the alleged abuse.

Masterson’s conviction marks a significant moment in a high-profile case involving accusations of sexual assault and the controversial role of the Church of Scientology in protecting its members. The case is expected to continue in civil court, where the victims seek further accountability for both Masterson and the church.
