Gunman Wounds Three in Atlanta Food Court; Officer Stops the Attack

All four individuals involved in the Peachtree Center shooting, including the suspect, are expected to survive, according to Atlanta Police.

A gunman opened fire in the Peachtree Center food court in downtown Atlanta, injuring three people before being subdued by an officer on Tuesday afternoon. According to Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, all four of those shot, including the suspect, are expected to recover from their injuries.

During a press conference, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens commended the swift action of the responding officer, emphasizing that the officer’s quick response prevented further harm. “Had he not been there, things could have gotten worse,” Dickens stated.

The incident took place around 2:15 p.m. at Peachtree Center, a central hub in Atlanta’s downtown area, known for its combination of office towers, an underground mall, and proximity to hotels serving the convention sector. Chief Schierbaum specified that the shooting followed a brief altercation between the gunman and one of the victims.

The victims include a 47-year-old man from Grayson, a 69-year-old woman from East Point, and a 70-year-old woman from Atlanta. The suspect, identified as a 34-year-old man from Morrow, Georgia, reportedly targeted one of the individuals before subsequently shooting the two other bystanders.
