Hunter Biden has agreed to drop a civil lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani and Giuliani’s former lawyer, Robert Costello, according to a court filing made on Thursday. The lawsuit, filed last year, accused the two men of violating computer fraud and data access laws by allegedly manipulating data from Biden’s devices or storage platforms.
The court filing reveals that Biden will dismiss the lawsuit, and each party will cover their own legal fees. The lawsuit had initially sought over $75,000 in damages, in addition to attorney’s fees and other penalties.
The decision comes amid Giuliani’s bankruptcy proceedings, which began in December after he was ordered to pay $148 million for defaming two former Georgia election workers. A person familiar with the filing explained that continuing the case while Giuliani was in bankruptcy did not make sense, as it would be more appropriate to wait until those proceedings conclude.
Biden’s legal team and Costello did not comment on the filing. The agreement is pending review by U.S. District Judge Jessica Clarke before it is finalized.
Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, praised the decision, describing it as a reminder of Giuliani’s “integrity and commitment to the truth” despite ongoing attacks from political opponents.
